Hadith 03

On the authority of ‘Abdullah, the son of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (ra), who said:
I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) say, “Islam has been built on five [pillars]: testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allāh and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allāh, establishing the salah (prayer), paying the zakat (obligatory charity), making the hajj (pilgrimage) to the House, and fasting in Ramadhan.” [Bukhāri & Muslim]

Notes

The person who perfects these five pillars is considered to be a true Muslim. Furthermore, the one who testifies that there is no god but Allāhﷻ and that Muḥammad is his messenger will be considered a Muslim in terms of ruling. Therefore once these words are uttered, it becomes necessary for them to carry out the remaining four pillars through their actions. And whoever leaves out the testimony of faith, will not be considered a Muslim. Therefore the remaining four pillars will not become obligatory upon them.
