There are three opinions for the definition of musnad:
- It is the same as muttaṣil according to al-Khatīb.
- It is the same as marfū’ according to Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr.
- It is marfū’ muttaṣil according to al-Ḥākim.[1]
[1] According to be Ibn Ḥājar it is a marfū’ ḥadīth which seems to be muttaṣil. Thus the narration of a mudallis can be musnad according to Ibn Ḥājar.
