Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī

The Jāmiʿ al-Musnad al-Ṣaḥīḥ al-Mukhtaṣar min Umūr Rasūl Allāh wa Sunanihi wa Ayyāmihi, known by its short title al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaḥīḥ or simply Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, is the foremost of the Kutub al-Sittah. Imām al-Bukhārī (d. 256 AH) selected its narrations from a working pool of some six hundred thousand, applying the strictest verification standards in the discipline of his era and arranging the text not as a flat list of ḥadīth but as a working juristic and theological treatise — every chapter heading argues a position; every selection of narration is a footnote to that argument.

The text spans 93 books (kutub) covering the full range of Islamic life: revelation and faith, knowledge, ritual purity and the prayer cycle, the obligations of Ramaḍān and ḥajj, transactions and contracts, family law, jihād, the lives of the prophets, prophetic commentary on the Qurʾān, manners and supplication, and the foundational doctrines of tawḥīd. Notes published under this series read selected chapters in their juristic context and follow the implicit structure al-Bukhārī built into his arrangement.
